Names

• The Novel Tree members are required to comply with our "Legitimate Names" policy. You must have your first and last names included as part of your user information. If you do not wish to list your full name, a first initial and last name is acceptable.

• While The Novel Tree Community has a Legitimate Names policy, we recognize that nicknames, or "handles" are an important part of Internet culture. It is permissible in The Novel Tree Chat to have such a nickname as part of your screen name, as long as the entire real name is present and the screen name conforms to our standards for language and harassment. Nicknames can appear at the beginning of your name, the end, or between your first and last names.

• Members using objectionable handles will be required to change them. In case of doubt, the chat host will contact The Novel Tree community staff for a decision.

Code of Conduct

• Impersonating The Novel Tree hosts or staff is not permitted.

• Profanity and vulgar language is not appropriate in any of our chat rooms.

• The Novel Tree members will not be permitted to harass other members, whether in a chat room or in an IM. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, disparaging or hateful comments based on gender, race, ethnic background, or religion.

• Scrolling, defined as "disrupting a chat room by sending repeated lines of text, numbers, gestures, words, or nonsense symbols to screen", is not permitted.

• Members are not allowed to advertise or solicit members in public chat rooms. "Advertising" includes business references only. Members are free to give out their personal URLs if they wish, as long as it is not disruptive to the conversation.

• By entering our chat room you agree to have your user name and comments cablecast on The Novel Tree.
